Stacey Bevan, PhD, MS, RN, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing, where she specializes in wellness for young families. Dr. Bevan earned a PhD in 2024 from the University of Pennsylvania as a Hillman Scholar of Nursing Innovation and Institute of Education Sciences Fellow. Following BSN clinical training at Penn Nursing in 2018, she earned an MA in Statistics and Data Science from Wharton Business School in 2022. She graduated from Tufts University in 2015 with a dual BA and BS in International Relations and Biology. Her approach to scholarship is interdisciplinary, and she collaborates with scholars in sociology, education policy, and public health on projects related to structural determinants of health. Dr. Bevan's scholarship has been funded by The National Institute of Mental Health, the Hillman Scholars of Nursing Innovation, the US Department of Education, the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau.
Dr. Bevan's bilingual clinical practice at the highest continuum of care compels her to understand the profound impact of social and structural conditions on family health outcomes. Her scholarship and teaching draw on clinical observations to emphasize upstream strategies to prevent health-harming exposures and improve family well-being. She is also committed to public scholarship by writing opinion pieces, translating research findings into lay summaries, presenting policy briefs to elected officials, and developing nursing leaders through teaching. As an educator, Dr. Bevan uses innovative teaching practices aligned with contemplative pedagogy to encourage critical thinking and applied knowledge. Her teaching expertise includes pediatric neurodevelopment, health systems and policy, and data science. Dr. Bevan brings an interdisciplinary, evidence-based, and applied perspective to student mentorship, global nursing leadership, and collaborations with community partners.
