Planning the Music for your Wedding

Weddings are occasions of great joy for the church community.

When deciding on the music for your wedding, it is important to bear in the mind the principle that church weddings are fundamentally liturgical events, and as such, they are subject to ceremonial rules and norms. Foremost among these are that

1. All music (sung or played) must be of a religious or ceremonial nature, without exception

2. Music is at the service of the liturgy, and must be fitting to the central liturgical action

Extraordinary requests will be accommodated if possible, and provided they meet the basic requirements above. In most cases, the music for these requests must be provided by the couple, at least one month in advance of the wedding. Organ or piano arrangements are acceptable.
