We Welcome Back Our Irish Traveler Families to St. Paul School
Wednesday, Nov 9
Message from Sister Mary Lawrence, O.P.
We have had so many blessings this past quarter, the greatest blessing being the partnership we share in your child’s education. Each child is a gift, and we are here to serve you and your family on the path of faith and an excellent education. I hope to see many of you at the 2:00pm Awards Ceremony at St. Paul Church tomorrow, Oct 27, and also at our Fall Festival on Friday!
For our new parents this school year, I wanted to make you aware of a unique culture of people that we are blessed to serve at St. Paul called the Irish Travelers. The Irish Travelers have been a part of St. Paul Parish and School since the 1970s, and they have a cultural way of life that includes traveling for work in different parts of the country. The Irish Travelers are in Memphis from November to May; from June to October, they ordinarily live in different parts of the country for work. Many of the Irish Traveler students will arrive on Wednesday, November 9th. In order to secure their child’s place in the classroom, the Irish Traveler parents pay tuition all year long, even during the three months that they are enrolled in other schools before they arrive at St. Paul in November. I believe that this shows their dedication to St. Paul School, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Memphis in November.
November is around the corner, and I ask that you consider attending the 8:15am School Mass on Friday, November 4th. The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, Bishop David Talley, will be presiding, and it is such an honor for us to welcome him. Thanks ahead of time for making effort to be present for this special occasion. After Mass we will have a special time of silent prayer as the Eucharist will be placed on the altar. We believe in the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharistic Bread, and it is such a grace to spend time with Jesus and meditating on this great mystery of faith.
God bless you and be assured of my prayers for you!
In Christ,Sister Mary Lawrence Wright, O.P.
