Greek School

Curriculum & Course Description

Our Greek School Program offers a comprehensive program of Greek education for children of all ages, from beginner through the advanced level; culminating in a Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek which can award up to three high school language credits.  Students are placed in levels in accordance with their knowledge of the Greek language rather than grades according to their age. Children have an opportunity to learn at their individual level, in small classes, with experienced teachers. The program consists of instruction in all of the following curriculum areas: Reading, Writing, Grammar, Conversation, Culture and History, and Greek Dance. During the academic year, special events are scheduled such as Oxi Day, Christmas, and Greek Independence Day,  where students perform plays, recite poems, sing songs, and dance.

The Greek School uses the Papaloizos Greek School book series. The curriculum and workbooks used are in accordance with the basic guidelines and regulations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North America. The curriculum builds reading, speaking, and grammar skills, and teaches the origins of Greek traditions, and customs, while also introducing historic sites and landmarks in Greece.
