The Psalms are songs that praise God or ask Him for protection. Historically, His people have faced great trials for not following the world and its corrupt ways. Many of the Psalms, such as Psalm 23, are so beloved that they are still used as prayers.

Ian Rana, a parishioner and volunteer at Holy Spirit Parish, heeded the call and invited some Filipino parishioners to sing Filipino songs for the mass. The group evolved along the way with a mission to lead the congregation and enhance the Gospel through music, until it became a full-blown choir coordinated by six leaders.

This summer, SCC will lead the faithful at the Rama Pilgrimage Aug. 14 and 15, singing worship songs as a prelude to the Eucharistic celebration on the first day, and again on the Feast Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

As neighbors, family, children dressed in festive pajamas and several miniature horses celebrated the Christmas season, the St. Cecilia Catholic School choir awaited their turn to serenade the community with six classic Christmas songs.

The students have been training since school started, giving up their chance to sleep in on late-start Wednesdays for choir practice. The practice sessions start with vocal warm-ups and students are learning songs in English, Latin, Italian and German, explained Galvan.

Huval was a featured songwriter during the 2019 SOLO Songwriting Festival and wrote songs with Nashville greats, Jim Lauderdale and Rusty Tabor. Huval has shared the stage and collaborated with legends Don Helmes, Jimmy C. Newman, D.L. Menard, Vin Bruce, Zachary Richard, Sonny Landreth, Roddie Romero, Buckwheat Zydeco, Louise Goffin, Lil Buck Senegal, and many others.
