Hi! I am Rishabh Mohapatra, the founder of Students Supporting Students Inc. a 501 c(3) tax exempt NGO that was established to help students from developing nations. I have always been successful academically and active in various clubs at my school, yet I sought something deeper and more fulfilling. Initially, when I received an opportunity to tutor kids from a Ugandan orphanage, I was skeptical. To overcome a cultural barrier and tutor kids of different ages and abilities (who shared one computer) did not sound like an easy feat. I thought that I was accepting a challenge by stepping out of my comfort zone. But as months passed, I experienced the inspiring resilience of these children with brutal family backgrounds as they unfailingly showed up week after week, bright-eyed and eager to learn something new. I realized they were not looking for tutoring as much as they were looking for hope. A beautiful bond has forged between us, since. I have been very humbled in the realization that not all children get the opportunities, resources and even basic means of survival that we take for granted. I established this NGO to help make a difference to my fellow students that are less fortunate. I hope that through the efforts of this organization, many more people take notice and get involved in our mission to help these young students.
