History of the school
To elevate the quality of the citizenry, bolster the nation's strength, and align with contemporary trends, the late President Chiang issued a directive on June 27, 1967, to extend compulsory education to nine years starting from the 1968 academic year. Under this noble goal, our school was established.
On May 5, 1968, construction of the school buildings began in Shanshang Village, with Mr. Shen Chi, the principal of Liujia Junior High School, overseeing the preparatory work. With support from local residents, the first phase of construction was completed on schedule in August, and the school officially opened on September 9 of that year.
Mr. Chang Baichao, the first principal appointed in July 1968, laid the foundation of the school amidst numerous challenges. His efforts were followed by Principals Qin Lingxiao (September 1972 to July 1975) and Zhuang Fangnan (1975 to July 1979), who, alongside faculty and students, diligently fulfilled their duties.
In August 1979, Principal Zhang Beichen took office and meticulously planned the school's development. By the 1981 academic year, the school had initiated a nutritional lunch program, significantly enhancing school affairs.
In August 1982, Principal Zhang was promoted to Yanshui Junior High School, and the provincial government appointed Principal Wu Shengyi to succeed him. Under Principal Wu's leadership, specialized classrooms and equipment were expanded, marking substantial progress.
In February 1987, Principal Wu was promoted to Xinshi Junior High School, and Principal Liu Wenfu took over. Principal Liu focused on life education, promoting a reading culture, enhancing library facilities, renovating the playground and main stage, adding a home economics classroom, and beautifying the campus, making significant contributions.
In February 1990, Principal Liu was promoted to Tucheng Junior High School in Tainan City, and Principal Xu Daoren succeeded him. Principal Xu continued educational reforms, added rain shelters between school buildings, and renovated dormitories, greatly benefiting the teachers and students.
In September 1992, Principal Xu was promoted to Ruifang Junior High School in Taipei County, and Principal He Zhongxin succeeded him. Principal He advocated for individualized education, improved educational facilities, and enhanced teaching equipment. In 1999, the activity center was built and completed in September, with the addition of basketball, tennis, volleyball courts, and a PU track, making significant contributions.
In August 2003, Principal He was promoted to Guan Temple Junior High School, and Principal Yang Wenbin succeeded him. Principal Yang improved comprehensive classrooms and teacher dormitories.
In August 2011, Principal Yang was seconded to the Tainan City Government Education Bureau, and Principal Zhang Mingxian succeeded him. Principal Zhang upheld the philosophy of achieving education through administration and realizing ideals through education. He emphasized developing students' diverse potential, established a sports class, set up an activity center as a training base for basketball players, and renovated the female basketball team members' dormitory. He adhered to the vision of creating a "healthy, energetic, self-disciplined, responsible, positive, diligent, grateful, loving, exemplary, talent-promoting, warm, and harmonious" school, aspiring to continue the legacy and create new legends.
In August 2012, Principal Zhang retired, and Principal Cai Fangmei succeeded him. Principal Cai deeply ingrained the values of "heart and innovation" into the team, emphasizing environmental education and integrating education into daily life. She centered education on life, using life education as the radius, to shape high-quality character education and humanistic care, cherishing the bonds between parents, teachers, and students, and striving to create a refined and warm school culture characterized by "kindness, diligence, filial piety, respect for teachers, gratitude, cherishing blessings, service, and introspection" among Shanshang students.
In August 2020, Principal Cai retired, and Principal Huang Jiankai succeeded her, continuing the educational spirit of previous principals and working with colleagues towards the goal of a "high-quality, happy Shanshang."
