The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program provides funding to institutions of higher education to provide scholarships, stipends, and programmatic support to recruit and prepare STEM majors and professionals to become K-12 teachers. Sul Ross State University (SRSU) aims to increase the pipeline of highly-qualified STEM teachers by 10% to serve in a high need school districts located on the Texas-Mexico border through a Noyce Track 1, Scholarship and Stipends project. The Noyce Scholarship Track 1 program leverages long-standing partnerships between SRSU, , Southwest Texas Junior College (HSI), Midland College, and several geographically isolated high-need school districts: Alpine ISD, Ft. Davis ISD, Marfa ISD, Presidio ISD,Eagle Pass ISD, Del Rio CISD, Midland ISD and Uvalde CISD. Scholarships will be provided to 18 SRSU STEM students in the junior and senior years to support persistence to graduation, with 9 scholarships provided to graduates of Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) interested in transferring to Sul Ross State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in STEM and STEM teaching certification.
The Noyce Scholarship Program is available to SRSU undergraduate STEM students who obtain a secondary teaching certificate in science or mathematics. Students must be a chemistry, biology, geology, computer science, or mathematics major and be accepted into the teaching certification program their Junior year.
Noyce Scholars receive up to $23,002 per year and may receive up to two years funding during their junior and senior year for a total of $48,004.
Students majoring in biology, chemistry, geology, computer science, or mathematics can obtain a teaching certification through the SRSU education office. SRSU STEM students must apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program their junior year, once 75 hours are completed.
Full admission into the Teacher Certification program at SRSU
Enrolled and identified as a Biology, Chemistry, Math, Geology, or Computer Science Undergraduate Major at SRSU
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
Participation in annual Noyce Scholars training and mentoring program
Agree to teach for two years following graduation in a school within a high need school district within six years of graduating with a secondary teaching certification in science, math, or computer science. If a Noyce Scholar recipient does not meet this teaching requirement, the scholarship must be repaid in part or in full, in proportion to the fulfillment of the teaching commitment met, as described below in the Terms and Conditions. The repayment requirement may be waived under hardship conditions.
