Noyce Scholarship Application Process

Scholarships will be awarded to the most highly talented applicants. Consideration will also be given to financial need, persons with disabilities, and the need to increase underrepresented populations teaching diverse students in the STEM content areas. Applicants must be willing to sign a detailed, legally appropriate payback agreement in the event that they do not complete their teaching obligation. The following holistic selection criteria will be used during the selection process following a 1-10 point scale for each component.
Essay (50%): Provide a personal statement of purpose as to why you are interested in becoming a Noyce scholar. Discuss the following.
Why are you pursuing a STEM degree?
Why are you interested in becoming a STEM educator?
What are your professional goals as a STEM preservice teacher?
Where do you see your future in public education?
Describe your strengths and weaknesses. How do you overcome challenges?
What qualities speak to your past successes that have prepared you to become a Noyce scholar.
2. Interview with STEM Education Advisory Board members (25%)
3. Three Letters of Recommendation (10%)
4. Service-Learning Requirement (10%): Share background or experiences volunteering with an agency, non-profit, or service group and how that experience would help in the classroom.
5. GPA (5%): 3.0 or Higher Preferred
Applicants must be a STEM major and pursuing a secondary teaching certificate, be accepted into the SRSU teaching certification program by August 1, and be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
Noyce Scholar Criteria
Enrolled and identified as a Biology, Chemistry, Math, Geology, or Computer Science Undergraduate Major at SRSU.
Full admission into the Teacher Certification program at SRSU.
Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, 3.0 or Higher Preferred.
Participation in annual Noyce Scholars training and mentoring program.
Take and pass STEM content TExES exam prior to student teaching.
Commitment to teach in high need schools.
U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
