Components of the Universe

Dark energy is still a great puzzle to scientist and not many convincing hypotheses exist to explain it. It can be thought of as an invisible force which causes the universe to expand at an ever-increasing rate.

Dark matter is something invisible with large mass, which surrounds the galaxies. It is important to understand what it is because it makes up a huge part of our Universe and shapes the galaxies as we know them.

A Galaxy is a collection of stars, dust, and solar systems that are held together by gravitational forces. There are billions of galaxies in the universe and they can be grouped into three main groups: spirals, ellipticals, and irregulars. Our solar system is located in the Milky Way Galaxy, which is a barred spiral.
