Welcome to the CARES Group!
The CARES Group is directed by Srinidhi Balasubramanian. We are housed in the Environmental Science and Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
We aim to advance systems-scale understanding of air quality, agriculture, and how their interactions impact human and environmental health in India through integrated modeling and data-driven analysis. Our work seeks to inform equitable, scientifically grounded pathways to improve air quality, human and environmental health, food security, and climate resilience.
CARES Research Group News!
July 2026: Deepakshi's second paper on an all-sector N budget is now published in Environmental Science & Technology. She uses a complex, interconnected EEIO to show how a third of all applied N is lost across sectors, activities and processes.
May 2026: Deepakshi's ambitious national-scale N budget for Indian agriculture has been published in Communications Earth and Environment! Kudos to Deepakshi for her meticulous accounting of a fairly complicated systems scale challenge to show how we lose a lot of applied N as pollution in India.
Saumya and Srinidhi attended the EMPHASIS project kick-off meeting for research collaborations with CICERO in Oslo, Norway.
March 2026: Many congratulations to Saumya for winning the best poster award at NEC 2026!
CARES also hosted Professor Chris Tessum (UIUC) and co-organised a hands-on workshop on Equation-based air quality modelling using https://earthsci.dev/ at IIT Bombay
Feburary 2026: Many congratulations to Ravinder, alumni Sathish and Pranjal, and co-authors Professor Virendra Sethi and Professor Krishnendu Sinha for publishing a paper in Building and Environment. Fresh off the press to read here!
January 2026: We launched the PAVITRA air pollution intervention tool for India. Do visit https://pavitra.org/ to learn more.
