For New Tutors
After you have received an acceptance about your application, complete the following steps in order to start tutoring.
- Get Trained
We want to make sure all of our tutors are held to a high standard! Please review the training slides below.
Remind and email with be our primary form of communication. Join our Peer Tutor Remind by texting @srhspeer to 81010 or join on the Remind App. Also, make sure to join the official Peer Tutoring Discord server at https://discord.gg/kAXtrvhB45
2. Complete the following Tutor Information Google Form
This allows us to connect you with a tutee and communicate. If you have a change in contact information or availability, email us at peertutoring.srhs@gmail.com.
3. Tutor!
After submitting your application, receiving an acceptance, and completing the above steps, you are ready to become a tutor!
If your availability changes, you can contact us at peertutoring.srhs@gmail.com, so we can change the tutor schedule.
About a day or two after you fill out the information form, we will update the tutor schedule accordingly. Make sure to check the tutoring schedule, since it will include the days you signed up for and are required to tutor. On those days, come to the library right after school. If you cannot make it on your day, message the officer manager for that day (can be found on the tutor schedule) on Remind. If you want, you can also drop in on other days, in case we need extra tutors.
When you arrive, please check off your name on the Sign In sheet at the front table. As tutees come in, an officer will assign you to a tutee depending on the subject and class they need tutoring in. When you leave, sign out using the Peer Tutor Sign Out Form. A QR code linked to the form will be posted at the Peer Tutor desk in the library. If you aren’t assigned a tutee right away, we ask that you stay until 3:50 pm, which will count as 0.25 hours of community service.
If you fail to come to tutoring on your assigned day 3 times, and you do not notify the officer manager beforehand, you will not be eligible to be a tutor the next semester. All tutors must attend at least 12 tutoring sessions per semester.
Community Service
If you are not needed by a tutee, you can leave the library after 4 pm, and you will receive 15 minutes (0.25 hours) of community service. If you tutor someone, you will receive hours for the total time you spent waiting for a tutee and actively tutoring. To receive community service hours, you must complete the Peer Tutoring Sign Out Form on the days you come to peer tutoring, as this is our way of tracking everyone's hours.
If you share contact information with tutees and tutor them outside of peer tutoring hours, it will not be counted towards community service hours.
You may request your approved hours by emailing our club advisor, Ms. Smith, at jsmith1@sandi.net
