Rights and Responsibilities

“Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education" -MLK, Jr.

The 2018 Southern Regional Composition Conference at the University of Memphis will bring together writing, rhetoric, and literacy educators to share and develop scholarly projects, pedagogical strategies, and assignment designs. The theme of this year's conference, Rights and Responsibilities, aligns with the broader MLK50 celebrations that will be underway in Memphis to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the civil rights leader's death. Not only will SRCC participants get to hear keynote talks from Jacqueline Jones Royster and Daniel J. Watts, but they are also invited to attend "King, Communication, and the Legacy of Civil Rights," an afternoon symposium featuring several prominent scholars of MLK, Jr.'s rhetoric. As well, conferences participants can attend a talk by New York Times photography critic Teju Cole on Thursday evening as part of an event called "Seeing Civil Rights."
