About SrA. Beatty

Spanish is one of my passions! I started to learn Spanish in a high school setting. I would go home and look up songs in Spanish just so I could learn more. When it came time to sign up for my classes in college, I knew that I wanted to continue Spanish so I did. I was so surprised to find that my professor refused to use English with us. At first I wanted to drop out, but within a week I became more accustomed to it and ended up LOVING it. I felt that I was more capable of speaking, writing and understanding the language because I was hearing it so often. I try to use about 90% Spanish in the classroom and 10% English for that reason.

I was able to serve a volunteer mission in Guatemala for 18 months and I loved it! My love for the Spanish language and different cultures grew. I learned how to respect other people's culture and ideas even if they did not match my own. Learning a language requires one to learn about a culture as well. The two are inseparable!

After living in Guatemala, I decided to study Spanish Teaching at Brigham Young University. I also graduated with a minor in Family Life.

In my spare time, I love to watch Netflix, read, write, sing, play pickleball, listen to music, eat lots of ice cream and spend time with my husband and adorable niece and nephew!

México in July/August 2019. I went to Playa del Carmen with my husband. We enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Playacar and went to the Xplor Adventure Park. It was a blast!

Spain in April 2019. I went to Barcelona with my husband during Spring Break. We were able to visit la Sagrada Familia, eat delicious food like Patatas Bravas and chocolate croissants, ride a ferris wheel on Mt. Tibidabo and enjoy some of the other beautiful structures by Antoní Gaudí.

Peru in July 2018. I was able to lead a humanitarian trip of 20 youth in Lima. We built a medical clinic in San Pedro Caraballyo. We also got to visit Cusco and see Machu Picchu! It was an experience of a lifetime!

Guatemala in December 2015. My dad and I were able to go ziplining in Antigua, which is surrounded by 3 volcanoes. It was beautiful! We also got to visit some of the people I met as I served in Guatemala. It was an amazing experience! I cannot wait to go back.
