Spanish 1 Information

Class Procedures

  • Arrive on time for class.

  • Wear a mask and use hand sanitizer when entering the Spanish classroom.

  • Avoid touching others and keep social distancing at all times.

  • Clean up your desk and chair with a disinfectant wipe when you enter the classroom.

  • Seat in your assigned seat and follow all classroom procedures.

  • Be prepared for class with all of your materials and a learning attitude.

  • Keep your Chromebook charged and clean.

  • Use Google Classroom and our online resources on a daily basis.

  • You must keep a pair of earbuds in a Ziploc bag in your backpack.

  • *NOTE* Most of the content notes and assignments in Spanish class will be delivered and completed electronically. These are some of the web-based platforms we will be using: Classkick, Edpuzzle, Classtime, Bookwidgets, Pear Deck, Quizlet, Quizizz, Seesaw, Plickers, Kahoot, Nearpod, Story Jumper, Gimkit, Padlet, and others.

  • You must have a pencil and your Spanish plastic folder in your backpack every day.

  • Put away all electronics; no texting or phone calls during class.

  • Water is the only drink allowed in class.

  • Respect yourself, respect others, and respect Spanish culture!

  • This is a safe space for all people! Learning Spanish is fun when everyone feels safe, respected, and appreciated. We will be learning about cultures that are different from our own. Approach all new information with a respectful attitude.

  • Participate in class and speak as much Spanish as possible.

  • Complete your class and homework assignments.

  • Gather and complete all missed work when you are absent.

Learning Targets

All students taking Spanish 1 will develop skills in reading, writing, and speaking basic Spanish. They will also gain an understanding of the various Hispanic cultures (through authentic resources) and how to relate to the people of those cultures. Vocabulary and basic grammatical concepts are taught using the text “Realidades 1” as well as a variety of audio, video, writing, and other activities incorporating the available technology in the classroom. We will focus on the three modes of communication: Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational as suggested by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

8th Grade Learning Targets:

  • Numbers

  • Alphabet

  • Telling time

  • Expressing likes and dislikes

  • Sentence Structure - forming and answering questions

  • Verbs - present tense and answering questions

  • Definite and indefinite articles

  • Agreement of adjectives with the noun

  • Cultural lessons corresponding to each chapter

  • Every day vocabulary - classroom items, calendar, school, hobbies, food, etc.

  • Spanish speaking countries: location, capitals, and cultures.
