School of Quantum Physics:
Quantum Information, Quantum Computation, and Applications
Quynhon, 29 November - 05 December, 2020
Rencontres du Vietnam
Due to the expanding of the current COVID-19 pandemic, international travels for the lecturers are not possible. After a long discussion, our school has to be eventually canceled. We apologize to all the inconvenience this may cause to participants and recommendation letter writers.
We hope that our school can take place in the coming year, when this pandemics is over.
Quantum information and quantum computation with their applications have been one of the most important topics of modern physics in the last two decades. The concepts of quantum information have been changing our view on the foundation of quantum mechanics and deepening our understanding of various areas of theoretical physics, ranging from strongly correlated systems in condensed matter physics to the physics of blackholes and quantum gravity. Effort in realising quantum computers has also been the motivation for advancing experimental techniques and engineering in quantum optics, atomic physics, nano physics and condensed matter physics.
This one-week course consists of long lectures (90 minutes) covering some basic concepts of the field followed by scientific talks (60-20 minutes) on more specialised topics. This year, the content is concentrated on the topics in quantum computation. After a lecture which sets the basic knowledge of quantum mechanics, protocols in quantum crytography and quantum computation are introduced. The theoretical lectures are followed by basic explanation of experimental realisations to promote physical intuition. Hand-on tutorials on implementation of the quantum algorithms in a noisy intermediate quantum computer are also provided. A one-day symposium by the end of the school is reserved for students and more senior researchers to present their works.
We encourage advanced students with major in physics/mathematics/computer science/engineering to apply. Basic background in quantum mechanics will be provided in the preschool and at the beginning of the course. Researchers in other fields who are interested in the topic are also welcome to apply.
Limited supports are available, please see here.
About Rencontres du Vietnam
Founded in 1993 by Jean Tran Thanh Van, the association Rencontres du Vietnam, a non-profit organization and an official partner of UNESCO, has as its objective the promotion of international exchanges between Vietnam and the international community, particularly in the areas of science and education. It also aims at the encouragement and integration of Vietnamese scientists into the international scientific community and at supporting the role of education and science by encouraging scientific awareness and stimulating passion for science in the younger generation. The Rencontres du Vietnam lies within the scope of two series of scientific meetings created by Jean Tran Thanh Van : the Rencontres de Moriond in 1966 and the Rencontres de Blois in 1989.
The creation of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) has the ambitious objective to focus on developing Science and Education by fostering exchanges between Asia-Pacific scientists and colleagues from other parts of the world.
