About me: I grew up in a small town and attended Era ISD, K-12, in north Texas with a graduating class of 21. I played Varsity Volleyball, (Varsity 4 years, Regional Finalist-Runner-up to State), Basketball, (Varsity 4 years, All-District 3 years) Track, and was a Varsity Cheerleader (3 years). I also participated in UIL OAP, (3 years Area appearance 3 years, State appearance 1 year) receiving numerous individual acting honors including All Star Cast and Best Actress, and was fortunate to have participated at State in 1989. I was the first person in my family to further my education and received theatre and cheerleading scholarships to Grayson College in Denison, Texas.
My Educational Journey began at Grayson where I was an active member of the theatre department and member of Delta Psi Omega, the honorary JuCo theatre fraternity, and Student Government, serving as an officer of both organizations. I was a cheerleader and served as Captain my sophomore year. I transferred to East Texas State University, and was fortunate to work with theatre and education legends: Dr. John Hanners, Dr. Kay Coughenour, Anne Bomar, Gary Burton, Dr. Anthony Buckley, Dr. Gil Clardy, and Jim T. Anderson. While at ETSU, I briefly worked with the coed cheerleading squad as a manager (GO LIONS!) and served with the Alpha Psi Omega honorary Theatre fraternity as Vice President and later President. I received my BS in Theatre, with an emphasis in acting and directing, and was awarded by ETSU, and my MS in Theatre, with an emphasis in improvisation, creative teaching, and playwriting, and was awarded by Texas A&M University- Commerce.
My Teaching Journey began in 1996, although I have just completed my 19th year teaching theatre. I have served as an Assistant Director, Technical Director and Director of Theatre as well as a Speech & Debate Coach and Assistant Cheer and Head Cheer Coach and Spirit Director. Grade levels I have taught include: middle school through University level, beginning at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Muenster, Texas A&M University- Commerce, Seguin High School and A.J. Briesemeister Middle School with Seguin ISD, C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron ISD, Brentwood and Gus Garcia Middle Schools with Edgewood ISD, and finally Thomas Jefferson High School with San Antonio ISD. Classes I've taught include: Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre, Production, Musical Theatre, Speech Communication, Communication Applications, Business Professional Speaking, Public Speaking, Debate, Cheerleading (Freshman, J.V., Varsity & Competition).
My Professional Journey has been very rewarding! I have owned a photography business since 2003 (Rebecca Phillips Photography) and a theatre production company (Tempest Theatre) since 2000. I have also performed in community theatre, film, television and commercials. Some of my favorite memories include working with Jack and Bobby, Friday Night Lights, Grind House, & Bernie.
I am a member of Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA) and served on the Curriculum Committee and also serve on the Texas Thespians Educational Conference Board as the Awards Chair.
I live in Prairie Point and have three children, Lauren, who is a Theatre Education major at Texas A&M-Corpus; Cole, who is an avid sportsman, and plans to enter the Air Force, and Makenna, a talented artist, is a Junior at Emporia High School in Kansas.
