New procedure for league play will begin with our first league date of 2023 and include the following as an initial procedure. There are options for how we as a league handle optional pool prizes and we can make changes to include optional prizes, see League Options discussed below. Rollover prizes such as the hole-in-one contest, will remain as cash award at an additional cost to the players.
1. Per City of Aurora Golf rules now being applied to Springhill: Each player in a league or club will be assessed a $5 prize fee collected when greens fees are paid, cash or Credit Card only, not permitted in Premier Card program. (Golfers who pay for green fees, cart, or range balls with a Premier Card will need to pay the additional $5 prize fee in cash or with a separate credit card.) After we calculate the winners (using the same formulas that have been used in the League for years), these prize fees will be paid out as prizes for Low Net/Gross scores and for 4 or 5 closest to the pins. However, the Low Net and closest to the pin prizes will not be cash awards, they will be deposited into a player account as a credit for redemption in merchandise only in the Clubhouse at Springhill or at any of the other City of Aurora courses. At this time accrued earnings cannot be used for Greens Fees, Cart Rental or Range balls.
2. Each player will be required to provide the following information to the City to set up their player account. (You can provide the information to the cashier, or if you like you can send this information to the league e-mail (springhillseniorgolf@gmail.com) for submission to City to register your account)
a. Full Name – First and Last
b. Phone Number
c. E-Mail Address
3. Redemption of accrued account balances can be used to purchase merchandise at any City of Aurora Golf Course. Players can obtain the balance on their account at any pro-shop and learn what merchandise is available for purchase using their credited prizes. Prizes earned in the calendar year must be used prior to the end of that calendar year or will be forfeited.
a. The city is examining the accrual of earned funds over a longer period of time to permit saving for a larger purchase such as clubs, bags or more expensive apparel.
4. Hole-In-One pool will remain the same, administered solely by the Monday Seniors League and will be awarded for anyone who has paid into the pool who cards an attested ACE on any hole during league play. Check with Charles or me to see if you have paid into the current pool.
Options regarding prizes in each week of league play.
1. Option 1 will be to keep the above process for prizes in merchandise credit in place for all league play for the remainder of 2023 or all future league play.
2. Option 2 establish a separate Closest to the Pin pool.
a. The entire $5 league assessment will be applied to the low net/gross prize pool for prizes added to the player’s clubhouse account.
b. We will create a separate Closest-to-the-Pin pool and those prizes will be paid to winners in cash. For these prizes we will collect $2 Cash deposited into an envelope at the league table, just as we do now. Participation in the Closest to the Pin would be optional and only those players depositing the additional $2 would be eligible for cash prizes from that week of play. Total pool would be divided into 4 or 5 prizes awarded in cash the following week, just as we currently do.
c. Other potential prize pools could be managed the same way – such as Skins, long drive, longest putt made etc.
Charles and I will place an election box and ballot slips at the League table for each Golf Day in February 2023 (And March if less than 2 weeks of play in January) to provide the league the chance to determine how we will handle Closest to the Pin pools going forward and suggestions for additional prize pools. We feel it should be the choice of the participating league members and want your feedback to establish the processes for prizes available in the league. Depending on the results of the voting the league rules will be edited and posted on the website.
