Library Hours of Operation: 8:15 am - 3:15 pm
Springdale Elementary Library is located in Room 205, and it houses more than 6,500 books, 15 videos, and several copies of different magazines. There are also two online computer catalogs. Students in grades PreK-5 visit the library for 50 minutes once every seven days for class instruction and book check out and exchanges. The library is also open to all students for book exchange every day from 8:20 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
The mission of Springdale Memphis Magnet Elementary School Library is to play a role in developing a love of reading and encouraging good, lifelong reading habits of all students. (Quoted from SCS Library Mission Goals) *
The vision of Springdale Memphis Magnet Elementary School Library is to foster a community of learning and literacy "where students experience success, achieve their maximum potential, and become successful citizens, while exhibiting Panther P.R.I.D.E.; thus, learning to be Patient and Respectful, to have Integrity and Drive as they strive for Excellence” (Title I Information, n.d.).
The objectives that the students focus on in the library at Springdale Memphis Magnet School are based on Shelby County Schools District Standards for Kindergarten through Fifth Grades. These standards are derived from the American Association of School Libraries (AASL) Information Literacy Standards. Click on the following link below to view the AASL Standards for the library.
The goals of Springdale’s Library Media Center are adapted from the AASL goals and they are:
“To provide intellectual access to information through learning activities that are integrated into the curriculum
To provide a physical access to information
To provide learning experiences that encourage students and others to become skilled creators of information
To provide leadership, collaboration, and assistance to teachers and others
To provide resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning
To provide a program that functions as the information center of the school
To provide resources and activities for learning that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, and social and cultural perspectives” (AASL, 2009).
No eating or drinking in the library.
Take care of books and all computer equipment.
Use shelf markers when looking for books.
No running, fighting, pushing, or playing in the library.
Always use an appropriate voice level in the library.
Return library books to the circulation desk and not to the bookshelves.
The computer and Internet may be used for educational purposes only.
1st offense: Verbal warning to redirect behavior.
2nd offense: Conference with the student to correct the behavior
3rd offense: Homeroom teacher will be notified of their choice,
4th offense: Parent/guardian will receive a phone call to inform them of their child's choices.
5th offense: Office referral to the school principal.

The standard loan period for circulating materials is seven days with one renewal.
If a student has lost, overdue, or damaged a book, they may not check out another book until the overdue one is returned or a fine is paid. Students will receive the first overdue notice when their book is two weeks past the due date. They will receive additional overdue notifications every two weeks afterwards. When a student has received three notices, and the overdue book has not been returned, the librarian will mail or email the overdue book notice directly to the parents/guardians.
