CKD is now recognized as growing health problem due to an rapidly increasing trend of its prevalence. There is no enough reliable information about the epidemiology of the earlier stages of CKD. According to the report of the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the prevalence of adult patients with early stages of CKD (CKD 1–4; 10.8%) is approximately 50 times greater than the prevalence of the terminal stage (CKD 5; 0.2%).
