Vocabulary aims: Consolidation and revision of Olympic games and action verbs related to them
Social Skills: Team spirit, social interaction, cooperation, confidence building,
PE aims: balance, muscle training, motor skills improvement, concentration, agility, improvement of stamina
How it’s played:
First, the students are pre-taught certain vocabulary related to Olympic games and action verbs.
2) Olympic Sports and action verbs
Then, they form a circle and they start moving in a circular route.
When the teacher names a sport, the students should start miming the sport they hear.
For example, if they hear the sport of javelin throwing, they should mime the verb throw.
They continue doing this action while moving until the teacher names another sport or another verb related to a sport.
For instance, they should pretend to swim for swimming, or jump for rhythmic gymnastics.
The students who do not do it correctly, lose and stay outside the circle.
The game goes on until there is a winner.
The difficulty of the game can escalate if the teacher decides to use riddles instead of naming the sports or the action verbs.
For example, if the teacher says the riddle “In this sport you come to the finishing line with the arms held high”, then the students should mime the sport of running.
Good luck!
