How To Play:
Tennis can be played on clay, grass, or hardcourts. The game is started by serving, which involves the player tossing the ball up with his/her non-dominant hand and swinging down on the ball with the racket, which should be held by his/her dominant hand. The serve should result in the ball going over the net and landing in the service box (the box diagonal to the server on the opponent's side). To hit the ball while it's in play, a player can employ a forehand or backhand stroke. A forehand involves the player hitting the ball forward and over the net with the racket in his/her dominant hand. The inside of the players hand should be facing the ball when hitting. For a backhand, the player positions the racket so that the back of the hand holding the racket is facing the ball when contact is made. The goal of the backhand stroke is the same as the forehand. 4 consecutive points must be earned to win 1 game. Points are kept in a 15, 30, 40 order instead of 1, 2, 3. A traditional set consists of 6-12 games. The winner of a set is the first to win 6 games.
Attire:
Tennis players should wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for running and flexibility. Tennis shoes should be used while playing to avoid injury. A cap may be worn to protect from the sun.
