Football is a team sport where the objective is to score more points than the other team. Each team has eleven players and consists of a defense group and an offense group. The defense group is responsible for defending against passing plays and keeping the pressure on the offensive group of the opposing team. The offensive group is to take the ball and score points. The game is played on a field which is typically 120 yards long and 53.3 yards wide.
In contrast, tennis is played solo or with another player. Additionally, football depends on strategy in both offense and defense while tennis depends more on skill.
Both tennis and football share a lot of cultural and social similarities. They are both are highly popular spectator sports, with a large loyal fan-base and audience. Also, both receive extensive media coverage, such as highlights, live broadcasts and in-depth analysis.
Though there are many similarities between football and tennis, there are also cultural and social differences. While football is more popular within the U.S, tennis has a more global appeal and is even played during the Olympics. This is because of where both sports originate. Football has its roots in U.S while tennis has its roots in medieval Europe.
Another reason that tennis is more popular outside of U.S than football is its global accessibility. Tennis can be played anywhere as long as there is a court, ball and rackets. On the other hand, ice hockey requires more safety equipment and a large field to play.
