It is the end of another day at the Krusty Krab and I still did not get tipped. I work very hard in the kitchen. Do you have a minute to let me vent?
I am going to start from the day I was hired! I can remember the day I was hired like it was yesterday. I ran into my boss, Mr. Krab, at Bikini Mart and he offered me a job at the Krusty Krab as a cook. He told me the pay would be good and if I stayed a long time I would get promoted. As a cook, it is my duty to cut all the vegetables and prep the food. It is also my duty to clean out the greaser and the kitchen. I have to cook the food fresh as well! This job is very demanding. How is it that I only get $11.00 an hour and Squidward gets his pay check and tips? Squidward works at the cash register. His job is to take orders and give them to me. I never really understood that because my job is very demanding. I always go home with a smile no matter how upset this makes me. I am not to rude too Squidward because it is really not his fault.
My problem is with Mr. Krab. I am a little scared to ask him about it because I do not want Mr. Krab to think I am being nosey or overstepping my boundaries. I usually get up for a morning run but I decided to do it at night today. As I was running through Bikini Bottom I heard some sound noises coming from Krusty Krab. I saw Squidward inside the big trash dump doing something. I ran over there to make sure he was okay and he was cleaning the inside of the dumpster.
I asked, " What are you doing?"
He replied, "Every other day after work I have to clean the inside of the trash dumpster."
"Why do you have to do that?" He angrily replied.
"Because there was a customer that complained about a year ago about the smell that was coming from the dumpster."
I began to think, maybe I shouldn't complain about him getting tips. Here I am leisurely taking my run and he is still at work scrubbing the inside of the dumpster. I would never have the energy to do that, every other day. I guess I should not complain about my duties and not getting tips. Squidward deserves every tip he gets. He is basically working overtime off the clock. He never once complained about cleaning the dumpster. I would have never known that he had this task if I did not go on my run today.
I began to run home and think about my attitude about the situation. I decided to never assume someone’s situation is better than mine. I did not realize how hard Squidward was working for his money. It actually is not fair to him. Next, I will help him. The dumpster honestly does need to be cleaned and scrubbed. There are some offensive writings on it.
Authors Note: The Ox who envied the Pig is a story about the Ox envying the Pig because the Pig gets the good food to eat. The Ox works much harder than the Pig. However, what the Ox didn't know is the Pig was being fattened up to be feasted on. I changed the ending a little in this story. I had SpongeBob envying Squidward because he gets tips at the cash register and he does not work as hard as SpongeBob. What SpongeBob didn't know was, Squidward does deserve the tips because he has clean out the dumpster every other day after work. I also had SpongBob reflect on the way he handled the situation. I thought it would be important to add to the story because oftentimes we jump to conclusions. We do not always know the other person's story. Towards the end of the story I wanted to incorporate part of a real scene from the original SpongeBob SquarePants. I attached a video of the scene of SpongeBob reading the writings off the dumpster.
