We know you have lots of questions! Please read through this area to find some answers, and reach out if there's anything you want to know!
We want everyone to feel welcome, comfortable, and valued during their time with SpiralScouts.
A new scout package is $30 for one year. This includes a level patch, SpiralScouts patch, neck cord, and ID Card.
A renewal at the one year point is $20.
A Spiral Up (move up to next level) is $25. This comes with a new ID card, new cord and a new level patch and SpiralScouts patch.
Not listed here are uniform costs, because there is no "required" uniform from SpiralScouts. The official look of SpiralScouts is addressed here.
Badges and awards range in cost from $3-$6.
At this time we do not collect dues, however there may be a point in the future where a small due (think $10-$20 per year, per scout) may be assessed to cover the general running costs of the Circle (gas, park entrance fees, snacks, craft and activity supplies, etc).
As a registered non-profit, we are able to fundraise and solicit donations.
We teach respect for the Earth, respect for each other, and respect for all living things. We teach gender equality by welcoming children of both genders and requiring that both genders be represented in leadership. We make crafts, sing songs, teach woodland lore, participate in service projects, explore cultures outside of our own, celebrate the Earth, teach good citizenship, go camping and hiking, explore mythologies, take on personal challenges, put on plays, participate in community events, earn badges, and grow and learn together.
Formally, SpiralScouts work with their Circles and individually to earn badges and activity award pins. Each child registered in SpiralScouts is offered the opportunity to earn a variety of badges that they can proudly display on their uniform.
Additionally, Circles and Hearths are encouraged to explore the world around them and to suggest new awards based on their own interests and activities.
Activities are based on the needs and interests of the children of a Circle or Hearth. This is a program designed to be lead by the children, with leaders serving as guides. Each SpiralScouts group is given flexibility to modify its programming, depending on the needs of its members. Some Circles may focus on teaching values within a religious setting, while others may be more secular in nature. Still other Circles may do more nature and ecological activities.
Golden Acorn Circle #430 is based on ecological and social responsibility, community service and engagement, and developing skills and leadership qualities to guide our scouts through life.
Parental involvement is a huge factor in youth development and success. We encourage your involvement. With a diverse and open environment, we are able to provide many more opportunities. Being involved helps the Circle with keeping this program going to the benefit of all Scouts.
We encourage all scout parents to take the steps to become Registered Adults (RA's). The cost is $40 for one year, and includes a criminal background check, a leader patch, SpiralScouts patch, neck cord, and ID Card. You do not have to be an RA to participate, but it offers a certain level of help, leadership, and safety to the Circle when you do.
