Chapter House Improvements

There's always something new going on at the SigEp Chapter House. It's part of our commitment to keep the facility clean and well-maintained, and up-to-date with the latest technology.

EAC - One of the recent projects involved installing Electronic Access Control (EAC) so members can use their Dartmouth ID instead of a passcode or a key to access the facility.

Propane Grill - Hanging out on the porch is one of our favorite pastimes and having a propane grill big enough to serve burgers and dogs to all is key to some great fun.

New TV - The old TV just died so a new one is on the way for the Library to facilitate online studying and recreation.

New Dishwasher - The good news is that the chapter IS washing dishes from time to time. The bad news is that dishwashers don't last forever.

WiFi Modernization Project - When we opened the house in 2011 we anticipated every brother having a cell phone that eventually would be a smart phone and need a WiFi connection. Now, our average number of connections is five times the membership with IoT devices like game consoles, watches, tablets, laptops, TVs, smart speakers (Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod), and the use model has changed to video streaming (NetFlix, Hulu, YouTube Red) and everything being cloud-based. The Wifi Modernization Project will address the growing access and speed needs of the chapter by deploying additional nodes and increasing the internet bandwidth, while also implementing standard security policies to ensure improved performance for all.

Facility Management

The AVC Board relies on the AVC VP of Facilities, Herb Philpott '85, and he relies on the Property Management Company, Cura LLC, and the undergrads to keep the facility clean and well-maintained.

Expectations and policies are set by the Facility Management Plan which was actually written before the chapter house was even built as a covenant between the AVC Board, the chapter, and the generous donors to the Capital Campaign to keep the facility clean and well-maintained, not like the old house, and not like other Dartmouth fraternity houses.
