Community Broadband Speed Test

Community Broadband

Maine alone, dozens of towns, counties, and economic development entities are working in regional gatherings to get ready for community broadband deployment. As a rule, the open private partnerships formed by these regional gatherings open the entryway to extra financing and resources.

Individual communities over the US, including no less than 7 in Maine, have decided to invest their own resources to develop community broadband networks. Albeit no two implementation models are identical, many employ some degree of open private partnership with area providers.

The Broadband Coalition Conference will feature 3 speakers from outside of Maine who will share data about community broadband efforts and financing sources from other areas of the nation.

Hybrid wired/wireless networks became the Next Big Thing – for a month. Yet, what if half and half infrastructure is the key that opens the ways to the next level of community broadband success?

My new report, " Fiber and Wireless – Stronger Together for Community Broadband", makes a business case for half breed infrastructure by assessing community broadband in a chronicled context, just as the capabilities of the present fiber and wireless. I've included past and current projects since they can teach us how to get more value from broadband technologies that communities use.

Wireless in broadband has been deified, vilified, misunderstood, hyped to sacred heaven, and in some circles, downright ignored. To many, fiber can't take the blame no matter what, just become faster. Then came gig fiber. No, pause, presently there's gig wireless. We need a reality check!! We're also fixated on speeds and feeds, bits and bytes.
