Elementary Intro
In Elementary Speech, we begin by shaking hands or giving "high-5s" to "Jack" the puppet. We then look at photos of each person in the class, find that person in the room, and wave "Hi" to that person. When a student sees their own photo, and is asked "Who is this?" they sign or say "Me!" Follow the leader is another great game to work on imitation and following directions! Try various skills including, large movements, small movements, sounds, gestures, and if possible words!

Secondary and Post High Intro
At the beginning of speech, we like to greet each other, saying "Hello" or asking "How are you?" verbally, with sign language, or with switches and iPads. It is important to make eye contact and smile when we greet our friends! We then choose our weekly mantra or positive thought! It helps to center our students and start the session on a positive note. If a different mantra suites your house better for the week, feel free to change it up! For example, "Strong immune systems rock!"
Al comienzo del leccion, nos gusta saludarnos, decir "Hola" o preguntar "¿Cómo estás?" verbalmente, con lenguaje de señas, o con interruptores y iPads. ¡Es importante hacer contacto visual y sonreír cuando saludamos a nuestros amigos! ¡Entonces elegimos nuestro mantra semanal o pensamiento positivo! Tips for Home
Have your student greet you with a high-5 or hand shake (Wash hands before and after!)
Show your student photos of themselves and family members. Have them identify themselves by pointing or give them a choice of 2 to choose from.
Greet anyone in the house by making eye contact, smiling, and waving "Hi!"
Ask your student "How are you doing?" They can respond verbally, with thumbs up or thumbs down, or you can give them 2 choices using your hands.
Post the weekly mantra in your house! Everyone can focus on it throughout the week.
