The mission of PPRC is to improve the lives of children, their families, and educators by exploring, teaching, and developing solutions to address communicative issues and language-based disabilities. Another aim of ours is to improve language equity for diverse groups public systems and settings.
Our current research involves:
- language science
- language development from infancy through adulthood
- Impacts of cultural-linguistic diversity in language, education, and therapy
- socio-linguistics, second language acquisition, and bilingualism
- literacy (reading and writing development and interventions)
Our outreach efforts are as follows:
- Community-based lectures, workshops, trainings and resources to community centers, daycares, schools, and parents about aspects of education or development most appropriate to the given audience.
- Free speech, language, and hearing screeings for children
- Informational pamphlets or digital brochures with developmental information about communication or feeding
- Research or clinical training for speech-language pathology students
- Professional development workshops, trainings, or lectures for Teachers of Students Learning English as a Second Language, Bilingual Educators, Educational Administrators, Speech-Language Pathologists, Educational Audiologists, Principals, Superintendents, Deans, Researchers, and Policy Makers
