SVANTEK 971 sound level meter and the acoustic calibrator. These items are found in the audiology suite on the top shelf to the right immediately when you walk in the door. *Be sure to log your hours using this device by scanning the QR code on the front door of the suite.
The batteries on this sound level meter die very quickly. You will most likely need to keep it plugged into your computer to ensure that it works for the entirety of your session. Please prepare early and have everything ready prior to your session.
To Turn Sound Level Meter On:
Press the <Shift> and <Start/Stop> keys simultaneously. It will automatically go into a self-test routine.
To Calibrate:
***"Note: It is advised to perform calibration of the instrument each time before the measurements begin" (SVANTEK User Manual, 2020).
After the sound level meter is turned on, "attach the sound calibrator carefully over the microphone of the instrument." (Set the calibrator on its side)
Turn on the calibrator by pushing the blue Power button. A red light will begin blinking by the 114dB. Wait until you see a continuous red light to begin calibration. This may take up to 30 seconds.
Press the <Start/Stop> key on the sound level meter to start the calibration measurement.
Press <Enter> to accept and save the new calibration factor.
"It is recommended to repeat calibration measurements few times. Obtained results should be almost the same (with 0.1 dB difference). Reasons for unstable results are as follows:
• calibrator is not properly attached to the instrument
• there are external acoustic disturbances such as high noise levels nearby
• calibrator or measurement channel (the microphone, the preamplifier or the instrument itself) are damaged " (SVANTEK User Manual, 2020)

To Start a Measurement:
"To start a measurement, press the <Start/Stop> key. After start delay count down the results of the measurement will be displayed in the one profile view. After turning on, the instrument requires 30 seconds to warm up. If you press the <Start> key earlier, the instrument will delay a measurement for longer time"
To Pause a Measurement:
To pause a measurement, press the <Shift> and <Esc> key together. To continue with the recording press <Enter>. You can erase up to 30 seconds of the recording.
To Turn the Device Off:
Simultaneously press the <Shift> and <Start/Stop> buttons.
