Tournament

As of September 5th, 2022, Michigan State has lifted its mask mandate. With this change, we will no longer be requiring masks at our tournament. However, if you test positive for COVID-19 and/or are experiencing flu-like symptoms five days or less before the tournament date, we encourage you to not attend our event. It is up to all of us to ensure our event is as safe as possible, so please take these actions if necessary.

Impromptu

Impromptu quotes will only have been spoken or written by MSU alumni, professors, and associates, Impromptu resolutions will be related to issues revolving around American universities and MSU, and Impromptu cartoons will be based on current news and controversy around MSU. 

Extemporaneous + Duo Commentary

There will be one round of Extemp with critical questions pertaining to Michigan State. It is in your student’s best interest to have a basic idea of MSU-related topics.

Broadcasting

Students should prep their broadcast prior to the tournament. Students will have 15 minutes to prep their editorial for each round. Broadcasters can anticipate at least one MSU-related editorial for this tournament.

General Meeting, Judges Meeting, & Award Ceremony: 

The General Meeting will be prerecorded and sent out to coaches a week before the tournament. We will also make the General Meeting available on our website. However, we will still have a Judge’s Meeting and a typical Awards Ceremony in person the day of the tournament.
