As the only speech club at Michigan State, Spartan Speech takes on the task of hosting a forensics tournament for more than 400 high school students every February. Starting in 2017, Spartan Speech has provided speech coaching to students both at Michigan State and at high schools across the country.
Since its beginning, Spartan Speech has grown its club membership greatly, leading to students from other universities coming to the Spartan Invitational to volunteer and help.
Spartan Speech started out as a club with one purpose — for former forensicators to stay involved in speech activities. However, as the club has evolved, Spartan Speech has become a resource for the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association (MIFA). Not only does Spartan Speech host an invitational every year, but they also now stay engaged with students year-round on Instagram and offer virtual coaching to students in high school and college.
Spartan Speech's annual invitational differs from other forensics invitationals because it provides a variety of activities for students who do not make it to the final round of competition, like an acapella concert.
Spartan Speech started out as an organization with only one person running it, but now has an executive board that works collaboratively to create perfectly-crafted invitationals that engage a diverse group of students throughout Michigan.
