Gotland Wool Standard
Gotland wool is used in a variety of ways. It's unique lock structure makes it a go-to for unique art yarn, crafting, felting, and more!
According to the Gotland Sheep Breeders of America, the wool of the Gotland Sheep Breed is described as: "fine, long, lustrous and dense with clearly defined curl and staple; soft to the touch. It is typically 29 to 34 microns in diameter at 18 months of age, as measured midside at the last rib. Lamb’s wool is typically in the low to mid 20’s micron range."
Shearing does not harm the sheep. It's the same as getting a haircut. If wool sheep aren't sheared, it can cause them great harm and even death. Wool is a sustainable product that is produced naturally and humanely. Poly-blend fibers are created using oil, which is a much less sustainable resource and continue the issue of micro-plastic pollution.
