Sparrow Lark Farm is home to more than 40 Gotland Sheep.
Gotland Sheep originate from the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, near Sweden. They are a medium-sized, hornless, short tail sheep with no wool on their heads or legs. Most Gotland lambs are born solid black but may have a small white patch on their head. As they grow, their silver wool comes in ranging from charcoal grey to light silver. Gotlands are prized for their versatility, kind nature, and inquisitiveness. They have a high lambing rate, abundant milk, and are a hardy breed. Many attribute the Gotland qualities to their ancestors which date back to the time of Vikings. Gotlands have only been in America since the early 2000's.
Our starter ewes were selected from a high quality farm in Kentucky with Gotland Sheep Standards in mind. We are actively working to continue to improve breed quality with special notice of structure, wool quality, and hearty lambs. Our newest ram came from Turtle Valley Farms in Michigan.
