SPA CARE FACILITIES AND INDICATIONS

This methodological guide has been developed as a practical pedagogical resource for teachers of vocational healthcare subjects, practical training instructors, and coordinators of vocational education and training (VET). Its purpose is not merely to describe the SPA3 – Spa Nursing Care for the 3rd Millennium project or to provide a technical overview of the Spanursing platform. Instead, its primary objective is to support the integration of Spa Nursing Care (SNC) into vocational healthcare education, enabling learners to acquire professionally accurate, practically applicable, and clinically relevant knowledge and skills that can be applied in spa, rehabilitation, and other healthcare settings.

The guide brings together three complementary dimensions. The first is the professional content of Spa Nursing Care itself. The second focuses on the pedagogical transformation of this content into thematic plans, lesson activities, practical exercises, and reflective learning. The third dimension concerns the effective use of the tangible outputs developed within the SPA3 project, including the multilingual illustrated dictionary, educational videos, worksheets, quizzes, and the overview of European spa facilities. These resources are intended to support teaching rather than replace it, providing educators with flexible tools for enriching their educational practice.

Spa Nursing Care represents a specialised field of healthcare that combines clinical knowledge with rehabilitation principles, patient education, health promotion, safety, effective communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As demographic changes increase the demand for rehabilitation and long-term care, healthcare professionals require competencies that extend beyond traditional nursing practice. Consequently, Spa Nursing Care is becoming an increasingly important component of modern vocational healthcare education.

The SPA3 project addresses the need to modernise vocational healthcare education through innovative digital resources and international cooperation. Developed collaboratively by partner organisations from four European countries, the project provides educators with high-quality, professionally validated teaching materials that encourage active learning, strengthen professional competencies, and promote an international perspective within healthcare education.

This guide supports competency-based, learner-centred teaching that emphasises problem-solving, critical thinking, and the practical application of theoretical knowledge. Digital educational resources are presented not as substitutes for teachers' professional expertise, but as tools that enhance the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of teaching while preserving the educator's central pedagogical role.

The publication is intended primarily for teachers of vocational healthcare subjects, practical training instructors, clinical educators, and VET coordinators. It may also serve curriculum developers, school management teams, and other professionals involved in the continuous improvement of vocational healthcare education.

It is important to emphasise that this methodological guide does not replace nursing textbooks, clinical guidelines, institutional protocols, or national healthcare standards. Rather, it provides methodological support for planning and delivering high-quality education in Spa Nursing Care, helping future healthcare professionals develop the competencies required for safe, patient-centred, and evidence-informed practice while strengthening the connection between vocational education and professional healthcare practice in accordance with European VET principles.
