Safety is our top priority.
We expect skaters to adhere to these rules. No exceptions.
We expect skaters to adhere to these rules. No exceptions.
Safety equipment and lights are expected. We skate in traffic. Consider protection against others, even if you're an expert skater. See and be seen.
Follow traffic rules. Follow stop signs and traffic lights, and yield to pedestrians (Especially on trails. Do not expect cars to yield to you.
Be courteous with your music. Competing speakers distract., and headphones isolate. Music is divisive, so we simply ask you to be courteous.
Communicate At a minimum, call out road hazards, turns, and cars. Headphones adn earbuds prevent the group from communicating to you.
Stay focused. Scan your surroundings and watch for obstacles. Be aware of your stride and the space you take up.
Skate together as a group. Skate in one late, and do not pass the lead skater. Anything that separates us makes us vulnerable.
Yes! Planned weekly skates take place unless the weather stops us. Follow us on IG and join the SCS FB group for the latest.
You’ll park your car at the meet up spot, where you’ll put on your skates with the crew.
Then, a designated lead will guide the group for roll out after a short round-up of safety rules and introductions.
The midpoint stop normally occurs at or after the halfway through the route, and the lead will already have ensured we can enter the premises on your skates.
Then, you’ll return to the parking lot before 10pm on Wednesday nights and around 10:30pm on Tuesday nights.
We will post weather updates on our Instagram story when wet roads might be in the forecast. Follow us at @spacecityskatersofficial.
We encourage all skaters to wear a helmet, pads, and something reflective or lit up (to ensure you’re seen). We also highly encourage strong flashlights to illuminate rough terrain and any dark streets/trails. You’re welcome to bring shoes with you, but most skaters don’t.
We stop for falls, skate repairs, and injuries, but we don’t end skates entirely. We don’t leave skaters to fend for themselves but as adults you should be prepared for the unexpected such as injury or an unrepairable skate.
Tuesday Night Skate and Wednesday Social Skate will always feature a midpoint stop, usually at a bar of the lead’s choosing. We like to find places that offer a variety of drinks and (sometimes) food, but please be flexible as everyone’s preferences are different.
SCS is for adults. We only allow skaters under 18 at our events when accompanied by a parent, and we expect skaters under 21 to be prepared that they might not be able to participate in the midpoint stop.
Yes! Our weekly Tuesday and Wednesday events are not beginner friendly, but our members host beginner friendly events all the time. Stay tuned to the SCS Google Calendar for tha latest! We also highly recommend our friends @HOU.SLALOM on Instagram for help with fundamentals and hone your skills. Then, when skaters get intermediate skills (most notably, the ability to stop and demonstrate control at any speed) we'd love to see you on a Tuesday or Wednesday!
We're proud to have a diverse crew! And SCS’ers are from every age group - many are legacy skaters who have skated 20+ years. Some like to talk while skating, and some like to vibe out. All are welcome, and we strive make space and room for everyone. Patience and compassion come first!
We love collecting content for social media, and if you prefer to opt out of the limelight, please let the lead know.
There are three abilities you need to city street inline skate with SCS on Tuesdays and Wednesdays:
Skate skill: street skating requires absolute control in balance and braking. If you have any fear of skating down inclines or doubt you can brake suddenly to avoid obstacles, you should gain those skills before attempting to street skate with SCS.
Cardio stamina: Average cardio stamina to handle short durations up hills and up to a mile without stopping. At some intervals, many stoplights provide a pause in skating, otherwise expect as much as a mile of straight steady exertion of inline skating.
Muscle stamina: Average leg and ankle stamina to handle an overall distance of 8 miles on Wednesday nights and 12-14 miles on Tuesday nights.
