Government Structure

The Soviet government is structured differently from other countries. It has multiple levels of government and has changes over many years of existence.

Soviet Socialist Republic

The Union of Soviet Federative Socialist Republics is split into many Soviet Socialist Republics, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR), Turkish Soviet Socialist Republic (TSSR), Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), etc. These Soviet Socialist Republics or SSRs individually hold elections for members of the Soviet of their SSR. Then those people elected to the Soviet vote for laws for the SSR, judges for the SSR court, an SSR council of ministers, and an SSR Presidium. The Presidium does the job of the Soviet when it is not in session and all decisions made in the presidium will be voted on in the next soviet meeting. The SSR Soviet also elects members to the Union's Soviet of Nationalities.

Soviet Union Government

The official government of the Union is similar to the individual SSRs. The main governing body is called the Supreme Soviet of the Union which is split into 2 bodies, the Soviet of the Union and the Soviet of Nationalities. Members of the Soviet of the Union are elected by all people across the Union while members of the Soviet of nationalities are elected by the governments of each SSR. The leader of the Supreme Soviet is called the Premier and is elected every 5 years by the both of the Soviets. The Soviets also meat to elect people to the Soviet Council which acts as a presidium for the Union, but it is ruled by the Premier. The Soviets can also make laws for the entire union as well as elect people to the council of ministers and elect people as judges for the national court.
