Proficiency Levels

The SHS World Language Department uses the proficiency levels and descriptors from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to drive instruction and assessment in modern language classes. The name for each course in our department signifies the GOAL for student proficiency by the end of the school year.

For example, students enrolled in "Intermediate mid Spanish 4 ACA" are working toward achieving an intermediate mid proficiency as defined by ACTFL.

Please see ACTFL's publications for more detailed descriptions of each proficiency level: https://www.actfl.org/sites/default/files/pdfs/public/ACTFLProficiencyGuidelines2012_FINAL.pdf
