*Negotiating Committee: Bargains on behalf of their unit’s contract. Once created, the committee remains intact until a contract agreement is reached. (Five members representing all units; appointed for staggered terms of three years) Article IX Section 4a
Communications Chair: Gathers and publishes a monthly SHEA newsletter. Serves as chair of the Public Relations Committee.
*Public Relations (PR) Committee: Develops public understanding for the purposes and programs of SHEA, values of public education, and in cooperation with the administration, the educational philosophy and programs of the school. The committee shall develop procedures by which the Association can work cooperatively with parents In public, fraternal and social organizations through all available channels of communication. This can include School Councils, publications such as a newspaper or website, and family nights. Article IX Section 4b
WebMaster: Builds, maintains, and updates the website at the direction of the president. Works closely with the recording secretary to keep members abreast of important developments. Collects data and maintains the member email and phone database. Functions as tech support for any member having an issue with the website or it’s many functions.
*Membership Committee: Organizes and conducts local, state and national membership enrollment among members and Inform members of policies, programs, services and accomplishments of the Association. The committee develops and conducts year-long programs for the orientation of new employees to the community, school, and organization. Article IX Section 4c
Membership Secretary: Collects and maintains accurate records of all member’s data. Works under the directions of the treasurer.
New Member Coordinator: Assist leadership by organizing and building relationships with new members, and encouraging their participation at local and state levels of the union. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting with, training, and creating socializing opportunities for new teachers.
*Nominations/Election Committee: Establishes rules for SHEA officer elections, NEA delegate elections, MTA delegate elections, and conducts those elections. (Five members representing all units). Article IX Section 4d
Social Chair: Coordinates social events for SHEA including monthly socials, the Retirement Picnic, New Member dinner and any additional social events the Association wishes to host. Organizes and chairs the Social Affairs Committee.
*Social Affairs Committee: Organizes social activities as may serve the needs of members and promote fellowship within the organization. Typically Includes monthly socials, retirement dinner and coordinates with the New Member Coordinator for the New Member dinner. Article IX Section 4e
*Governmental Relations & Citizenship (Political Action) Committee: Coordinates with local and regional political activists to represent and keep members informed of developing political situations affecting education. Will work closely with the Public Relations Committee as needed. Article IX Section 4f
*Professional Development & Instructional Services (PD) Committee: Explores and develops action programs to raise and maintain the standards for certification, employment and assignment as well as Improving opportunities for professional development and maintain rapport between SHEA and neighboring or related Institutions of higher education. Article IX Section 4g
*Professional Rights and Responsibility (Grievance) Committee: Develops positions for SHEA on all matters pertaining to the rights of members, especially academic freedom, administrative discipline and dismissal and grievance procedures. Members of the committee will represent SHEA In grievances with the appropriate body of the school. Article IX Section 4g
*Unit E (ESP/ETA) Coordinator: Represents the interests of Unit E members and functions as a liaison between the Executive Committee as needed. Serves as grievance chair for Unit E reps. Article IX Section 4g4
Honorarium Committee: Coordinates the SHEA Honorarium fundraiser and fund distribution.
