What was known as The Independent Methodist Church of Fairchance was organized sometime previous to 1903. It seems that, as an Independent Church, it was difficult to get pastors. It was arranged that the Church should be placed under the care of Reverend Edward George Loughery, pastor of the Uniontown Methodist Episcopal Church. He organized Fairchance as a Methodist Episcopal Church. Accordingly, at a meeting of the Independent Methodist Church of Fairchance, held January 19, 1904, it was voted to petition the Fayette County Court to allow the Church Charter to be amended so the name of the Church should be The First Methodist Episcopal Church of Fairchance. Under this name the church commenced its existence in 1904. A new church building, erected in 1924, replaced the original building which had been destroyed by fire. In 1965-1966 an addition was made to the structure. In 1968 Trinity Church was on a circuit with Smithfield and Hutchinson. The membership in 1968 was 211. The membership on January 1, 2003, was 115. In 2018, Fairchance: Trinity UMC became one of 14 churches in a newly formed cooperative ministry called South Fayette Cooperative Parish, serving communities in southern Fayette County.
