At Harris Havanese, our dogs are part of our family first. We believe every dog deserves a life filled with love, stability, and personal attention, which is why we intentionally limit the number of dogs living in our home.
To continue raising healthy, happy puppies, we carefully introduce new, high-quality bloodlines into our program—and our Guardian Home families make this possible.

What Is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is a loving family who welcomes one of our breeding dogs into their home as their forever companion. These dogs grow up enjoying all the benefits of family life—couch time, adventures, and unconditional love—while also helping us thoughtfully continue our breeding program.

You get a wonderful dog to love. We get peace of mind knowing our dogs are cherished every day. 🤍

How Does It Work?

• Guardian families receive a pick-of-the-litter puppy or young adult dog at no cost.

• Your dog lives with you as your family pet for their entire life.

• Female dogs stay with their Guardian family during pregnancy and come to Harris Havanese shortly before delivering puppies. Once the puppies are weaned, she returns home. Most females have 3–4 litters total.

• Male dogs live full-time with their Guardian families and are only needed for breeding occasionally. Males typically remain in our program until about 8 years old.

• All breeding-related expenses are covered by Harris Havanese.

What We Ask of Our Guardian Homes

Our Guardian families are true partners in this program.

For females

• Help monitor heat cycles and keep your dog safely separated from intact males.

• Be comfortable with your dog staying with us for a couple of months per litter.

For males

• Prevent contact with unspayed females to avoid accidental breedings.

We work closely with our Guardian families to make the process smooth, predictable and stress-free.  We provide guidance and support every step of the way, and are always available to answer questions.

Guardian Home Qualifications

To ensure the best experience for everyone involved, Guardian families should:

• Live within 30 minutes of the 90278 area

• Own their home and plan to stay for at least 5 years

• Have a secure, fenced yard

• Provide routine veterinary care and vaccinations

• Commit to ongoing training and socialization

• Maintain professional grooming every 6–8 weeks

• Feed a Harris Havanese–approved diet
