The Guardian Home Program

At Harris Havanese, we believe that every dog deserves the best life possible, full of love and individual attention. This is why we limit the number of dogs residing in our home. In order to breed the healthiest puppies possible, we need to regularly add high-quality, diverse bloodlines to our breeding program. That is where the Guardian Home Program comes in.

What is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is a family who welcomes one of my breeding dogs into their home as their forever pet. These dogs get to grow up and live life as a cherished family companion, while also being part of our breeding program.

How does it work?

• Guardian Home Families receive a pick-of-the-litter puppy or young adult, at no cost, to enjoy as their pet for the lifetime of the dog.

• Females stay with their Guardian Home Families during pregnancy, then come back to Harris Havanese just before giving birth. Once puppies are weaned, females are returned to their Guardain Homes.  Breeding females typically have 3-4 litters.

• Males stay with their Guardian Home Families and are used for breeding on an "as-needed" basis. Breeding males typically stay in our program until they are 8 years old.

• Harris Havanese covers all breeding-related expenses.

Guardian Home Responsibilities

• Females: Guardian Home Families need to manage heat cycles and keep fertile females safe from intact males. They also need to be comfortable with their female staying with Harris Havanese for couple months each litter.

• Males: Guardian Home Families need to prevent contact with fertile females to avoid accidental breedings.

Qualifications:

• Guardian Home Families must:

• Live within 30 minutes of the 90278 area code.

• Own their home and not plan to relocate within the next 5 years.

• Have a secure, fenced yard.

• Commit to routine vet care and vaccinations.

• Provide consistent traning and socialization.

• Have the dog professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks.

• Feed a 100% raw food diet from a approved vendor.
