DIGITAL DISPUTE RESOLUTION SPECIALIST [DDRS]
The DDRS Diploma stands for Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist. It entails four separate courses and when these four courses are completed, students become eligible to receive the DDRS Diploma. Each course is followed by an assessment which is in the form of role plays and written assessments.
These courses are:
1. Civil/Commercial Mediator -accredited by ADR ODR International and SIMI and recognised by CMC (UK) and IMI
2. Associate arbitrator - ADR ODR International accredited
3. Certified Negotiator
4. Online Dispute Resolution Specialist
This means delegates will receive 5 certificates for completing 4 courses.
4 of the courses mentioned above and 5th of the Digital Dispute Resolution Specialist
The detailed outline of each course is as follows:
Course 1: Civil/Commercial Mediation Training
(Can be online in full OR day 1-3 online and day 4-6 in person OR fully in persons depending on the venue)
Covers the following:
[5 days, followed by an assessment on Day 6]
(If the course is taken online in full, an additional in-person assessment is required for full accreditation)
• Historical overview of ADR and the modern ADR movement and theory of Conflict
• Mediators Code of Conduct
• Introduction to the five stages of mediation
• Mediation skills
• Introduction to Online Mediation
• Communication Skills
• ADR globally
• Psychology of Conflict
• Negotiation
Two Assessments:
1) 90 Minute role play on Day 6
2) 3-hour open book written assessment
Successful delegates are eligible to apply for SIMI accreditation and will be recognised by CMC (UK) and IMI.
Course 2: Fundamentals of Negotiation:
[Online- 2 Days, followed by an assessment on Day 2 – 90-minute role play exercise]
• give you a basic understanding of how conflicts arise;
• give you an introduction to conflict resolution; and
• enable you to critically analyse the use of conflict resolution methods and approaches;
• equip you with the basic skills needed to negotiate your way through a conflict;
• help you to understand the principles behind negotiation;
• help you to understand the cross-cultural issues that can occur during negotiations;
• help you familiarise yourself with e-negotiations.
• help you to understand your own negotiation style (and other negotiation styles.)
This is a slightly different course than to what we offer in Dubai. The Dubai course can be part of the DDRS Diploma and count as the Negotiation part, however, is more expensive and longer.
Course 3: Online Dispute Resolution
[Online – 1.5 Days, followed by a written assessment]
Introduction to online mediation
Using Zoom and other platforms for online dispute resolution
Tools and technology required for effective online dispute resolution
The impact of AI and emerging technologies on online dispute resolution
Adapting to a rapidly digitalising world: The benefits and challenges of moving dispute resolution online
Course 4: International Arbitration:
[Online- 2 Days, followed by an assessment on Day 3- 2 hour written assessment]
1. Fundamental principles of International Arbitration
2. UNCITRAL Model Law and New York Convention
3. The Arbitration Agreement
4. Arbitral Process
5. The Award
6. The Courts
International Arbitration (module 1) gives graduates the title of Associate Arbitrator. There are a further two option modules to become an ADR ODR International accredited International Arbitrator.
