Blockchain for Effective Renewable Energy Trading and Financing
Event time: 12:00- 13:00
Host: Blockchain & Climate Institute and the National Business Initiative (NBI)
Event type: presentation (open event)
Blockchain affords benefits to the renewable energy sector by increasing efficiency and transparency. The implementation of blockchain for the renewable energy agenda could consequently scale renewable energy markets and help meet South Africa’s Integrated Resource Electricity Plan to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030
The objectives of this session are:
To explain how blockchain can be applied to renewable energy trading and financing to mobilize the renewable energy transition;
To provide a specific demonstration of how blockchain can be applied to the South African renewable energy sector to enable the decentralisation of the energy market, thereby improving grid stability and scalability; and
To discuss the implications of blockchain-based renewable energy system on climate change policy and regulatory frameworks in South Africa.
Clean Energy Investment and Enabling Policy Environment
