Learning About Learning
"Learning styles" is a term that gets thrown around quite a bit, yet it is a myth. Many things contribute to the preferences we have when learning but there is no such thing as a "visual learner" or a "kinesthetic learner". Want to know more? Read on here.
Happy New Year!
As we begin the month of February, we have lots going on in the library. Students in grades 3-5 are working on creating their own video games in Scratch which they will showcase in our "Arcade" event. Last year we raised money to help feed families that were displaced by the war in Ukraine. This year, students have voted on supporting the Champaign County Humane Society. Get your change ready! More info will be forthcoming once we have a date set for the Arcade.
Kindergarten will be continuing to read folktales and fairy tales but we will be focusing on Anansi stories for Black History Month. First grade is reading the, "Hat" books by Jon Klassen. Second grade will be taking a serious of virtual field trips through books after completing our Chris Van Allsburgh author study.
A couple of reminders
Don't forget, library books are due back after one week. Many teachers ask the students to bring them back the day before they come to the library. If you want to keep your books, hold onto them and bring them with you to the library when you come. We can renew them then.
Finally, if anyone has an extra checkers set, please let me know. We normally have about 25 students in the library first thing in the morning who do not eat breakfast and I would love to start playing checkers with the students during this time. Thanks!
WANTED!
We have a beautiful outdoor patio space where kids can enjoy some fresh air and read. Currently we are using folding lawn chairs as seating but we would love it if the students had more permanent seating to enjoy. Please contact Mr. Lash if you would like to help with this project!
