PhD position openings:

At CREATE Lab we are constantly looking for highly motivated doctoral candidates with good academic background and a passion to carry forward our lab's research endeavor in thermal engineering. At present my lab has 2 immediate Regular PhD openings in the following areas:

1) Calorimetric and Volumetric measurements in Adsorption:

We have an in-house built heat and mass transport characterization system where one can study different adsorption pairs and miniaturized heat exchanger designs at various pressures and temperature. At present the system has been used to study water based adsorption pairs (low pressure physisorption) having applications like chiller, heat pump, atmospheric water harvesting, desalination etc. For future studies, we want to extend the application of this system to higher pressure pairs and if possible to pairs which depict chemisorption.

2) Active Control of Refrigerant charge in Vapor Compression system:

We have developed a hybrid Vapor compression based chilled with integrated adsorption heat exchanger. The prototype can significantly enhance refrigeration capacity of VCRS by changing the refrigerant charge quantity based on load demand. At present this is only in Proof-of-Concept stage and we are looking for a doctoral student who can carry out detailed studies on the present prototype, modify/miniaturize the prototype (if needed) and develop novel, scalable control algorithms which can be used to control refrigerant charge even in large-scale commercial chiller plants.

Interested candidates can contact me on sourav@mech.iitkgp.ac.in for further details and directly apply for PhD position through the institute website: https://www.iitkgp.ac.in/rolling-phd-admission.

If your interests extend beyond the research areas listed above and you believe you can make a meaningful contribution to the CREATE Lab, you are encouraged to contact the Principal Investigator directly at sourav@mech.iitkgp.ac.in. Please include your latest CV along with a brief technical proposal outlining your research interests, relevant expertise, and how you envision contributing to the lab.
