MAIN POINTS
OBJECTIVE: By May 14th, 2026, convince the PFISD Board of Trustees to vote against Draft Scenario 7 of the district’s optimization scenarios, as PCMS aligns with 3 out of 4 of the district’s said priorities: Advancing Student Achievement, Student Persistence, Investing in People, and does not effectively take into account equity and the economic divide between east and west sides of the district, social-emotional learning and culture, transportation, diversity, and the potential additional loss of students in reaction to closure. Conviction will be achieved through data, qualitative stories and interviews, petition, and stakeholder presence with a consistent, unified voice.
NORMS: As a parent organization, we will oppose PFISD draft scenario 7...
Civilly and through appropriate channels.
By adopting a problem-solving, solutions oriented perspective.
While remaining respectful of other campuses in their individual efforts.
Using a unified voice and cohesive format that serves the best interest of ALL Park Crest students.
Assuming positive intentions by the district.
PROBLEM: Due to the way schools are funded in the state of Texas, as well as decreasing enrollment in public schools across Texas, Pflugerville ISD faces an approximate $18M deficit by 2026-27. This has led to the necessity of an optimization plan to reduce spending and ensure buildings are at full capacity in order to reduce costs.
TALKING POINTS:
An economic and racial divide exists between Pflugerville’s east and west schools. Although, some Park Crest MS (55% eco dis) students would attend Kelly Lane (20% eco dis), the other students would likely attended campuses with greater economically disadvantaged demographics. This would result in deepening the divide between east and west campuses.
Data, see presentation for explaination
Arguably, STAAR growth is the best state measure regarding the instruction in a campus building. Park Crest MS, An overall high “C” rated school as well as “C”rated in “School Progress,” and “B” rated in Academic Growth, many Park Crest students would move to lower “C” rated schools with “C” and “D” ratings in the same areas.
Park Crest is not the lowest achieving or the oldest MS in the district.
There’s possible negative effects on home values (without a neighborhood school), and thusly a negative affect on commerce and community businesses. SEE MORE INFO IN "Additional Resources"
We encourage families in our community, but also families planning to have children, or do not yet have “school age” children, to think about how this closure might affect them.
