Doctor J. Douglas Smith (Doug), now Coach Smith, was born and raised in Anderson, IN just north of Indianapolis. He got his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1986. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine. He practiced for thirty years, mostly in Express Care in the Emergency Department setting with St. Vincent Emergency Physicians. Now, he is an Assistant Varsity and Head Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Liberty Christian High School in Anderson.

He is Laura's husband, and Jeri and Erin's dad.
