I showcase artifacts of my participation in the learning activities of the CISD 600 course
I explain how I learned and what I learned in every learning activity in the course of Learning Theories for online Education, I Show evidence of my understanding to different learning theories and its application in designing of e-learning. I recognized the benefits of designing an e-portfolio and how practicing reflection help in retaining knowledge in the course CISD600. So, I Articulate and explain the steps I performed to critique a research and other learning activities and I classify the learning activities in the course according to its type. I show the alignment and relevance of my discussion topics with the weekly required topics, and explain the significance of my input in the flipped classroom. I Demonstrate understanding of course content and how it enhanced my ability to design online learning environment with real world context. I applied my skills in providing critical analysis on complex matters related to online education.. I Describe how the flipped classroom and discussion boards have impacted my educational experience. I Reflect on how studying the CISC600 will help me in the future as an in designing e-learning opportunities for my students that foster 21st century skills and encourage lifelong learners.
The main focus of this course is to provide an overview of the field of educational technology related to major theories, disciplines and technical advances that have influenced its evolution. The technologies discussed will include all technologies from traditional to the latest, especially web 4.0 tools, the use of gaming and simulation, mobile devices, social media and artificial intelligence. In addition this course aims to increase awareness of the need for higher reflective thinking and critical analysis of the processes and effects of technology integration in education. Using project-based and problem-based learning approaches, the course also addresses social, human, ethical, and legal elements of using technology in teaching and learning.
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
Demonstrate a comprehensive and highly specialized knowledge of learning technologies, both historical and current and their application in teaching and learning
Demonstrate a deep comprehension of the relationship between learning theories and the integration of technology tools in the design of effective learning
Use and apply advanced skills of research, analysis, and evaluation in suggesting appropriate and innovative solutions for technology-enhanced learning environments
Plan, develop, execute and manage major collaborative projects in educational technologies to enable systemic change
Demonstrate professional communication skills when presenting, explaining and/or critiquing issues or concerns related to educational technologies
Function autonomously and take responsibility for managing professional practices, and processes in educational technologies
Play appropriate role when leading the strategic performance and development of professional teams and self in projects related to educational technologies
Plan and execute life-long learning consistently and sensitively in the rapidly evolving domains of educational technologies
learners are active participants in their learning journey; knowledge is constructed based on experiences.
Every week i reflect o my understanding to the weekly topic as the instructor implement a flipped classroom stratige in learning. The learning methodology deepens my Understanding. Writing responses and engaging in discussions helps me process and articulate my thoughts, reinforcing my understanding of the course material. The act of explaining concepts to others clarifies my own understanding.
I described the increasing levels of interactivity and collaborative engagement as one move from OD to ODE to OCL.
I demonstrated the principles of creating multimedia content to optimize learning outcomes by reducing cognitive load and increasing engagement.
By listing out comparable attributes side-by-side, the table make it easier for me and my collogues to see distinctions and commonalities between concepts in learning theories, helping us understand the differences too.
I highlighted that technology is a tool to enhance education and its implementation should serve the curriculum.
I emphasized on the effect of multiple choices with immediate constructive feedback on student learning and retention as a behaviourism.
The image showcases behaviorism in educational technology, focusing on reinforcement of desired behaviors in the classroom. Examples include ClassDojo, an app awarding points for positive actions, and XtraMath, a math practice app providing immediate feedback for mastery.
Discussing the connection between learning theories and practical application is essential for meaningful learning and deeper understanding, as it bridges abstract concepts with real-world experience.
I listed examples of some platforms that adopt learning theories in educational technology, focusing on reinforcement of desired behaviors in the classroom such as
1- Behaviorism in ClassDojo: A classroom app where teachers can award points to students for positive behaviors, such as hard work or helping others. This reinforces desired actions through rewards, a core behaviorist approach.
2- Cognitive Constructivism is a theory implemented in simulation- based learning
3- Cognitivism is implemented in language acquisition platforms as it breaks down language into structured steps, using spaced repetition, visual aids, and progressively complex tasks that build upon prior knowledge.
4- Social Learning Theory is implemented in Discussion Boards like n Coursera
5- Constructivism uses Project-Based Learning like Edmodo that allows teachers to create project-based assignments where students actively engage in problem-solving tasks.
After learning the theory of processing Information, i found similarities between how computer's RAM and human short memory, as I am ICT teacher and teaching hardware components to my students. I was so happy to explain the similarity between our memory and computer memory to my colleagues during CISD600 class. I explained how people cognitive memory can focus on one activity at a time and we should know how to save information in a permeant location for retention otherwise its volatiles as RAM. I emphasis on the role of Dual channels to introduce new information for students to double the effect and help them retain the information easily.
I referred to the similarity and likeness between human memory and computer memory in the way of input new information, processing, storing and retrieval of information
I performed some steps to be able to perform a critique on research related to online learning Theories, starting by choosing a high-ranking research journal and a topic that checking the implementation of one strategy of online learning in online platforms. I found research investigated the efficiency of implementing a question bank called Quizzlet to a university to enhance learning outcomes to introductory course in the preparatory level. I liked the idea as it moved from personalized learning experience to collaborative enviroments by adding some criterias of participation for every student. Every student will be involved in generating high quality MCQ with feedback and they must submit it after each lecture and the assessment of the program will assess the quality before publishing.
I created comprehensive visual representation of learning theories, their features and how to convert between them
I also explained the methodology that was followed to evaluate the validity of using MCQ bank on students learning and information retention.
Speaking about some Ai platform like Napkin.ai that can help teachers or course developers to generate visual contet using Ai
I understand the importance of reflection and articulating my learning experience, I wrote about why e-portfolio is a powerful tool in the learning journey.
