She uses mundane poses and unassuming objects to create both feelings of grief and nostalgia. Through her work, she uses personal memories to relate to the viewer. Sturgeon has exhibited work in multiple shows, including the BFF Show at Storage Space, the Indy Arts Center 2025 College Invitational, and was best in show in the amateur category at the SHAPE juried art show
My artwork brings the unnoticed to the forefront of people's minds. I utilize painting and sculpture to create tender moments between the piece and the viewer. I use oil and acrylic paints to show the everyday moments that can get lost in the hectic nature of our world today. I invite viewers to take a moment and slow down, reflect on how lucky we are to just be alive. A common theme that runs through my work is grief. I see grief not as a looming monster but as something you carry with you. Something that changes the way you interact with the world. For some, it's crushing, but for others, it gives another reason to try. It is an extremely complex emotion that changes the way we carry ourselves. Through my work, I bring my own memories to the forefront for the viewer to see and interpret for themselves. Using these memories to connect grief with growing up and feeling grief not only for specific people but a time period. I use rigid sculpture to create more abstract representations of these feelings. I am specifically drawn to using metal to create soft objects to counter the viewer's innate reaction of how this object should feel.
This collection focuses on the beauty in the everyday. Asking ourselves to take a moment to find the beauty in the small things in life.
