This space has a few important functions. On a small boat access only island, without any services, stores or public spaces, The Give and Take is a third place that is essential for community connection and resource sharing.
Residents of Mudge Island are able to bring items of any kind into this space to easily pass onto another community member. This bypasses the hassle of lugging unwanted items off island to a landfill or to donate. Checking what is newly arrived at Mudge Island's only "store" has become an important part of many residents daily routine, in which often neighbors connect in person for the first time.
This space has also hosted seed swap events, clothing swaps and bottle drives. In the summers, this space has been used for fresh bread pick up from a bakery on Gabriola Island and access produce sharing from local gardens.
